Become A Plus Size Model

Plus Size Model Body Types
To become a plus size model, height and body proportions are extremely important. Ideally you will be 5'6" or taller, although generally speaking this type of model will be expected to be at least 5'8" tall. Even though the industry embraces the larger figure, you still need to look healthy and well balanced - as a rough guide, the difference between your bust, waist and hip measurements should be around 10 inches. So, for example, a bust size of 42, a waist size of 32, with hips at 42". These kind of proportions are necessary to be successful, as your agency will not want you to be a heavy pear shape, or too 'top-heavy' e.g. a large bust with small hips.
Agencies are looking for bigger sized clients who can best advertise and promote bigger sized clothing and other products for the larger market place, so you need to have good proportions in order to become a plus size model.
What Work Is Available For Plus Size Models?
Plus size modelling is very much a female dominated industry, although there is still a requirement for male models. There are a wide variety of clothing catalogues and websites catering for the larger man, so there is clearly a need for the masculine gender to cater for this marketplace. If you're a big buy with lots of personality and a good face for photos, why not approach a modelling agency and see if you've got what it takes to make it in this industry?
For females, the industry is definitely more expansive. With an ever-increasing number of high street clothes shops and brands catering for a more fuller figured woman, there is a growing need for agencies to provide this type of body shape who can help to promote their products. This type of modelling also covers other commercial needs, such as modelling accessories, footwear and lingerie.
