Women's Plus Size Evening Dresses - 8 Simple Tips to Look Great in Your Shape

We all come in different shapes and sizes, selecting the right plus size evening wear for you is very important. Find your body shape first then select from the wide range of stylish plus size evening dresses or plus size suits that flatter your curves and enhance your shape.
The Pear Shape: Hips and bottom section is larger/wider than the average waist- hip ratio. There are a lot of beautiful plus size evening dresses that gather out from under the bust or waist this style will work for you.
  • Wear a jacket or top that has padded shoulders and a little length preferably past your bottom, this will add a little width across your upper torso and draw a "V" line inward to your tummy. The bottom (skirt or pants) should match or be in a darker shade/color, always choose a plain flowing design, this would give you an even flow from top to bottom.
  • I particularly like the long flowing open tops with 3/4 length sleeves that can be worn to complement any dress, skirt or pant. These tops are ideal for women in this category or are a little conscious of showing their upper arm (My hand is up).
The Apple Shape: Typically this shape is when the mid section or tummy is larger/wider than your hips. I prefer to stay away from vertical or horizontal stripes they just do not work for me, and I go for fabrics that don't cling.
  • Personally I would wear an evening dress with or without straps that is gathered or flows from under the bust, this style never dates and always looks fabulous. I like darker shades in any color, but there are some really gorgeous soft pastel colors in this style designed exclusively for plus sizes.
  • Another option is to choose a dress that actually draws the eye to your center like some sequins sewn into a pattern starting from the hips on both sides and leading to the middle. Or choose a dress that takes your eye from the hips to the neckline using a ruffle effect in the center that flows gently from top to bottom.
  • Show off your best assets by drawing attention to a beautifully designed sweetheart neckline or a fashionable necklace, show off a little cleavage, leg or a little shoulder.
The Banana Shape: Having similar bust, waist and hip measurements. If you think about your shape you really only need you to enhance you bust and hip area just to bring back a little of the hourglass shape. Easy!
  • Padded bras and padded knickers: underwear that has padding around your bottom. I have not tried these but they are out there.
  • Choose an evening dress that has gathering or ruffle around your hips or your waist or one that comes out from the waist.
  • A strapless or halter neck dress that goes straight down, with or without a drawn in waist, but do wear a good quality shapewear garment to draw your waist in a little.
With the variety of beautiful plus size evening wear available today I am sure that what ever your shape or size you will find the perfect dress or suit for you.
